HUMOR, lol: How To Write Good!

.

*I don't know where this came from, but some is derived from William Safire's Rules for Writers. (Don't forget: this is humor!)

.

1. Always avoid alliteration.

2. Prepositions are not words to end sentences with.

3. Avoid cliches like the plague—they're old hat.

4. Employ the vernacular.

5. Eschew ampersands & abbreviations, etc.

6. Parenthetical remarks (however relevant) are unnecessary.

7. Parenthetical words however must be enclosed in commas. ...

A police officer pulls over a speeding car. The

officer says, 'I clocked you at 80 miles per hour, sir.'

The driver says, 'Gee, officer I had it on cruise

control at 60, perhaps your radar gun needs calibrating ?'

Not looking up from her knitting the wife says:

'Now don't be silly dear, you know that this car doesn't have cruise control.'

As the officer writes out the ticket, the driver looks

over at his wife and growls, 'Can't you please keep your

mouth shut for once?'

The ...

The Sack Lunches

I put my carry-on in the luggage compartment and sat down in my assigned

seat. It was going to be a long flight. 'I'm glad I have a good book to

read. Perhaps I will get a short nap,' I thought.

Just before take-off, a line of soldiers came down the aisle and filled

all the vacant seats, totally surrounding me. I decided to start

a conversation. 'Where are you headed?' I asked the soldier seated nearest

to me. ' Chicago - to Great Lakes Base.
